In the Pink in honour of Breast Cancer Care Month

In case you hadn't noticed all over the world October is Breast Cancer Awareness month which draws attention to this disease by encouraging women to take advantage of screenings, or donate money to research into finding a cure. 

You will see Pink Ribbons in stores, particularly at beauty counters and companies such as Marks and Spencer with their Pink range of clothing, Asda with their "Tickled Pink" range, and Estee Lauder and many others supporting this cause. 

So going with the thinking pink theme here's a few items that are in the pink ....

Looking forward to Cersaie 2012

We are visiting Cersaie 2012 and looking forward to seeing the new trends and colours.  Most of our Italian suppliers show here so we will be having several busy days!

Bisazza have previewed "Variations" - you can see the tiles in different sizes and shades which combine to create patterns and blends similar to twined fabric - this one looks almost as it if could be Scottish tweed.

Going wild in the jungle!

As always at Cersaie you see everything from the sublime to the ridiculous, colours and designs that either to dazzle or assault you!

The perennial fashion favourite of animal print or snakeskin has long since made it's way into the bathroom, mainly in tiles which have been a favourite wow element for a while.

We saw a collection of sanitaryware which has a fabulous tactile texture and was showing in crocodile and snakeskin patterns some of which did look stunning.

First introduced at Cersaie in 2008 a new addition to the Jungle range appears each Autumn / Winter.  This certainly makes an impression, so for those that are looking for that little bit more that is just the thing to match their accessories could consider the Jungle range from Ceramica Cielo.

However for those who want to let their imagination run wild, either a feature or whole bathroom of animal inspired designs can make an ordinary bathroom into a statement designer bathroom.

Soak are delighted to announce that for the second year running, our Head Designer, Catriona Lock, is a finalist in the KBB Review Industry Awards.  Catriona has been nominated as one of 4 finalists for Bathroom Designer of the Year in the £25+ category.

Catriona describes the inspiration behind her design: "the theme of black and white came into play once I had selected the bath, after which everything else just seemed to drop into place.  I settled on the iconic design of the Amalfi bath from V+A deciding that the sculptural aspects of the bath were perfect for this space.  The design concept of this room is from the minute you walk in you want to start touching and using everything as the tactile appeal has such a huge impact on this design.  The fascinating part of this design is as soon as I walked into the existing bathroom I could see that a huge amount of space was not being used to it's full advantage.  Having worked with our clients on their master bathroom, I had a good idea of what their tastes were, and as soon as I had established what they wanted from this room in the way of product, i.e bath and shower, and storage, I could start to put the room together in my head and it all just slotted into place."

June 21st saw the first day of summer and naturally here in the home counties of England it was raining!  And it was the Glastonbury Festival recently, swimming in mud for much of it.  If that isn't a cue for Summertime Blues then what is ...

Blue is often a colour used in the bathroom, from balmy summer days of sand and sea with blue and white or blue and yellow to the cool shades of winter. 

Colour is often introduced in a bathroom either by tiles or a coloured worksurface or furniture unit,  a blind or curtains or towels and accessories.
