Axor Urquiola received Design Award of The Federal Republic of Germany

Axor Urquiola received the highest official German design award, the Design Award of the Federal Republic of Germany.

The “award of all awards” is presented in Frankfurt. The winner: the Axor Urquiola wash basin

Philippe Grohe accepted the Design Award of the Federal Republic of Germany at a ceremony in Frankfurt am Main.  The head of the Axor brand was accompanied by Spanish designer Patricia Urquiola.  Due to her creativity the most prestigious German design award went to the Black Forest: the wash basin from the jointly developed Axor Urquiola Collection was presented with the “award of all awards” in silver. The award went to Hansgrohe for the second year running.

“We are delighted to receive this award”, commented Philippe Grohe.  “It confirms our innovative strength and Axor’s design expertise.”  The work with Patricia Urquiola, who is regarded as a master of style fusion, was extremely inspiring. She looked at the bathroom and asked questions from a woman’s perspective: what room do I need to myself and what areas do I want to share? The Axor Urquiola collection aesthetically answers to these questions.  The Urquiola wash basin is now regarded as the fairest of all.

Judging panel: a wash basin that creates feeling

The Axor Urquiola wash basin has slit-like openings on both sides that resemble handles and can be used as towel rails.  The high-calibre judging panel regards the wash basin as a “homage to the traditional form of ancient wash tubs”.  It is not only functional, but also charges the wash basin area with emotions.  The top-end bathroom product also scored highly with the judges due to its material quality.  The mineral cast guarantees “a particularly pleasant feel” and allows the creation of an extraordinary design.

More than 1,500 products were nominated for the Design Award of the Federal Republic of Germany, selected in 2010 by the federal and state economic ministries, but only 25 products actually received one of the prestigious awards at this year’s award ceremony.

Often a floral theme is used in a Country / Traditional design for a bathroom, but with the increase of Boutique hotels with their stunning bathrooms and bedrooms, this has also moved into Contemporary designs, especially in an en suite.  You can instantly create an opulent feel or add instant glamour with a careful selection of tiles.  Include a feminine touch with flowers and counteract this with dark furniture gaining a masculine edge.  Sometimes less is more, so think of a small feature decor, or just one wall in the shower or where the bath is, or a splashback between a basin unit and a mirror.  Choose complementing towels picking out a colour in the tiles and feature this in your bedroom.  You can have your traditional roll top or slipper bath with a wall of floral tiles behind, reinforcing the design of your bedroom.

Dune @ XXV Anniversary of CasaCor Brazil

Dune attended the XXV Anniversary of CasaCor Brazil, in Santa Catarina from March 19th to May 1st. Some of the most illustrious people in the world of architecture and decoration participated creating unique spaces.
In Brazil, Dune collaborated with the following professionals of the in the development of two spaces.

The prestigious architect Francine Faraco showed elegance and sophistication in "Living" by using Dune's "Nacar Natural" on the main walls as well as on the ceiling to achieve this stunning look.

Dune also worked with two other prestigious architects and designers, Luiza Carla Galitzki and Joao Aumond, from Studio D. They used two of Dune ranges to tile their space called "Sala do Hobby da Familia".  "Black Keops" by Dune was used to coat walls on the spa area. On the floor, they used "Titan Gris", and created an avant-garde and innovative atmosphere.
