Axor Urquiola received Design Award of The Federal Republic of Germany

The “award of all awards” is presented in Frankfurt. The winner: the Axor Urquiola wash basin

Philippe Grohe accepted the Design Award of the Federal Republic of Germany at a ceremony in Frankfurt am Main.  The head of the Axor brand was accompanied by Spanish designer Patricia Urquiola.  Due to her creativity the most prestigious German design award went to the Black Forest: the wash basin from the jointly developed Axor Urquiola Collection was presented with the “award of all awards” in silver. The award went to Hansgrohe for the second year running.

“We are delighted to receive this award”, commented Philippe Grohe.  “It confirms our innovative strength and Axor’s design expertise.”  The work with Patricia Urquiola, who is regarded as a master of style fusion, was extremely inspiring. She looked at the bathroom and asked questions from a woman’s perspective: what room do I need to myself and what areas do I want to share? The Axor Urquiola collection aesthetically answers to these questions.  The Urquiola wash basin is now regarded as the fairest of all.

Judging panel: a wash basin that creates feeling

The Axor Urquiola wash basin has slit-like openings on both sides that resemble handles and can be used as towel rails.  The high-calibre judging panel regards the wash basin as a “homage to the traditional form of ancient wash tubs”.  It is not only functional, but also charges the wash basin area with emotions.  The top-end bathroom product also scored highly with the judges due to its material quality.  The mineral cast guarantees “a particularly pleasant feel” and allows the creation of an extraordinary design.

More than 1,500 products were nominated for the Design Award of the Federal Republic of Germany, selected in 2010 by the federal and state economic ministries, but only 25 products actually received one of the prestigious awards at this year’s award ceremony.

The Axor Urquiola basin is on display in the Soak showroom, alongside the iconic Urquiola bath and bathroom mixers.
