What exactly is a design brief?

Bathroom Design by Soak in Style

What does a design brief entail?
We want to know what you want to achieve from the bathroom, what current problems you want to resolve, any restrictions due to windows, soil pipe, eaves etc.  We will normally come and measure your bathroom taking note of any of these potential problem areas.

Why do you want me to give you a budget?
We want to ensure that the products you have initially selected are within your budget, so we don't have to re-design and re-quote.  The costs of a finished bathroom can vary wildly - all depending on the size of the room, exactly what you want in the room, constraints of the room, and the product.

I don't want to reveal what it is as I think you will only produce a design to that figure?
That is not how we work; we would guide you to select products within your budget, or only suggest products that are suitable.

Why isn't it as cheap as it appears on all the TV makeover programmes?
Often the installation is not included, and many production companies persuade manufacturers or showrooms / merchants to supply goods at very reduced rates in return for a mention not only on the show, but also on their internet sites, which will be online forever.  Often a makeover will appear to have been done in a very short time as it has been edited down.  The programme will probably have been made some time ago and there may have been price increases.

Can you achieve the following look?
- warm and luxurious
- elegant and contemporary
- modern
- modern traditional
- traditional
- hotel look
- moroccan style
- chic boutique
- family-friendly

Absolutely!  Or anything else than inspires you.  We may question you closely on your thoughts regarding colour and exactly what you mean - one persons definition can be quite different to someone else.  This will all be discussed as part of the initial meeting with our designer.

What should I expect from my design?
A full colour visual showing you the way the product will look in your bathroom.  We do not just do quick 15 minute drawings, nor do we have standard design formats that we apply to all our designs.  Each and every design is individually designed to suit your brief and the discussions that took place during the consultation.  Our designs are full professional visual aids to aid installation that take many hours to produce.

Example of the Design Process

The Brief:
  • Update a tired en suite bathroom in a 1930's home
  • With children no longer at home this couple wanted a shower room - preferably a wet room as they can use the bath in the family bathroom
  • He wanted a fantastic shower that would drench him, she wanted the option not to get her hair drenched and also be able to clean the shower area easily
  • Storage
The Design:
Raindance Overhead Shower with  multi-options so you can select the direction the water falls, as well as a rainshower to change the direction giving a drench or  effect, with Axor Starck shower plus hand shower for cleaning the area or their dogs!  There is a soap dish so that shampoo or soap can be easily reached during showering.  Bisazza mosaics are on the floor, with a floral design by Valentino on one wall to soften the masculine black and white, along with a Dansani Zaro Basin unit in Black Rubber with a matching cupboard for additional storage.  A Duravit Pura Vida close coupled WC completes the modern design.
